The International Board of The World Zoroastrian Organisation, London U.K., is pleased to announce that the Trustees of the Dennis William Richards Will Trust have decided to allocate their Trust amount of £400,000 through WZO, as a charitable donation to alleviate the dire needs of the poor of India.

We will receive £400,000 in two equal instalments and will distribute the funds to 7 WZO charity projects and to 13 other (non-Zoroastrian) charities in India as stipulated by the Trustees. A list of the 20 institutionalised projects, to help infants, children, adults and even a hospital in India, is given below. The first cheque for £200,000 was received on 12th March 2007.

The decision to entrust WZO came after Mr Alex Burns and Mr Rohinton Irani visited India to gauge the nature and extent of needs; meet with charitable organizations coping with the dire realities of life and to see the work being undertaken by WZO. The Chairman of WZO, Mr Sammy Bhiwandiwalla and his wife Ursula, accompanied Messer's Burns and Irani to Gujarat, where they were shown the WZO charity projects by Mr Dinshaw K Tamboly, Trustee of the WZO Trust Funds of India, and his wife Bachi.

Burns and Irani were impressed by the proficient manner in which WZO managed the various charity projects, and noted the immense contribution made by Bachi and Dinshaw. The couple convinced them that WZO has the necessary procedures and expertise to handle major charity projects and, more importantly, to be fully accountable to the donors for their money. The Trustees decided to entrust WZO with the distribution of all the donations to their other selected Charity Institutions in India.

The WZO feels honoured and humbled that the Trustees have decided to entrust WZO with this happy task, which it will fulfil through its WZO Trust Funds of India. We are grateful to the Trustees of the Dennis William Richards Will Trust for their munificence and for their confidence in WZO's management of their projects. The International Board of WZO UK also acknowledges the invaluable role played by Mr Rohinton Irani in bringing about this generous donation.
